I’m not Irish, but I’ve always enjoyed St. Patrick’s Day. For one it means Spring is only days away. And hey, I can’t help it! I love shamrocks, rainbows and those ornery Leprechauns who hide their pots of gold. And okay, I like beer! Green or not.
Beside, you have to admit, there is something magical and mystical about rainbows. I grew up watching Dorothy signing about what was over the rainbow, so I guess my curiosity and love of rainbows was born at a very early age.
The colors in rainbows can be vibrant and so stunning you swear you can reach out and touch them with your fingertips. Or they can be as soft and subtle as a whisper. Blink and they’re gone!
Ever follow a rainbow in search of that pot of the gold at the end? I’ve followed a few, not in search of the gold , but in search of the end just to see if I could find it. If you’ve chased a rainbow you’ve discovered they can be elusive and tricky. Science says it’s because they are an optical phenomenon, making it impossible to ever reach the end. Shoot, guess that means there is never any hope of finding that pot of gold! But it’s still fun to try. And I have seen the end! I’ve even captured a few on film. What an awesome sight it is, too. Although these two photos don’t show the end, they were still breathtaking rainbows I captured last year. My photos don’t do them justice, but I hope you enjoy them anyway.
Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours–
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!
